MASER MIGLIA was started in 1997
in order to have one event a year at which all TMC members from all of
our chapters could attend. Since we're spread far and wide across the
globe, trying to pick a "central location" was a logistical nightmare
so we opted to have the event move from chapter to chapter each year.
The concept of the MASER MIGLIA is a three-day
driving event through some of the planet's most beautiful
landscapes. This is an active touring event open to members of
The Maserati Club only. It is also the one event a year in which
members must drive only Maseratis during the convoy. Visiting members
may rent cars but they must follow the main group in the rear. We stay
in the best resort hotels and dine on the best of local cuisine. One
example was in 1998 in Napa Valley where we took over the famous
Beringer Winery for the evening and had an incredible gourmet feast. We
typically invite a Guest of Honor, someone who is personally connected
with Maserati's history. In 1997 it was Dott. Adolfo Orsi, in 1998 it
was Matteo Panini.
1997: "MASER MIGLIA." The first year
was spectacular right off the bat and was hosted by our
Rocky Mountain Chapter in the Colorado Rockies. We visited Rocky
Mountain National Park and at one point were driving at above 14,000'
elevation!
1997 at "Twin
Lakes" in Colorado
1998: "The Road to El Capitan." MM was
hosted by our California Chapter and ran from Lake Tahoe, NV,
through Yosemite National Park, up into Napa Valley Wine Country,
and ended in San Francisco, CA. This was our most ambitious MM and the
cars got quite a workout!

1999: "The Road less Travelled."MASER
MIGLIA was hosted by the Eastern Chapter amongst the beautiful
mountains of Northern Vermont with an excursion into Canada to visit
cosmopolitan Montreal. The event featured famed Maserati race
car driver Billy Krause, subject of an intensive article in the last iL
TRIDENTE, as Guest of Honor. And what a guest he was! I've never seen
anyone
throw a vintage Mistral Coupe around the back roads of Vermont the way
he
did! Stories were plentiful and we were again joined by Dr. Adolfo Orsi
from Italy.
MASER MIGLIA III VIDEO

director Elie Zakaria. Should you wish to purchase the full

1999 in

slow Mr. Krause
down in the esses!!
2000: "Morrison to Monterey" MASER
MIGLIA 2000 was held August 15-19, 2000 in support of the first
official U.S. presence of the new importer, "Maserati, N.A" at the
Laguna
Seca Historic Races in Monterey, California. Starting in Denver,
Colorado,
WE DROVE 1300 miles through some of the most spectacular, beautiful
Western territories of the U.S. (in CO, UT, NV, and CA) and landed at
Laguna Seca where we had a club stand and a large gathering of TMC
members from all over the world. There we proudly showed the ONLY GHIBLI OPEN CUP RACE CAR present
during the weekend (courtesy John F. Bookout and
VAHF ). But the biggest success story was the absolute
sellout of our "Driver's Reunion
Dinner" Saturday night at the DoubleTree Hotel in Monterey. Originally
we planned for a group of about 75-85 persons. However when we passed
the 100 mark 3 weeks prior to the event, we were forced to move
to
a larger area. No problem we thought, the 2nd floor courtyard
will hold 180. Came Saturday, August 19th and we had 180
reservations plus
a waiting list! Whew! Our thanks to all our honored guests and
TMC
members who attended. The full story is published half in IL TRIDENTE ,
issue #42, "The Road to Monterey," with the second half our
featured story in the new IL TRIDENTE
OnLine section of this site.
2000 on Route 50 in Utah +
Nevada:
Steve Claassen won
the 2000" Spirit of MASER MIGLIA Award" for first
detailing his
Ghibli SS to perfection, then driving on MM with us 1300 miles,
then showing his
car at Concorso Italiano where he garnered a 2nd place
finish! Who
else winning a Concours trophy in Monterey drove it farther
than off the
trailer?!!
